The history of Samkvidro dates back to 2013, when Dr. Zurab Kalandadze met with His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

During their meeting, they discussed the idea of establishing a scholarly journal dedicated to the study, preservation, and dissemination of Georgia’s intellectual, cultural, historical, and spiritual heritage. Following this discussion, His Holiness Ilia II gave his blessing for the establishment of the journal.

Although the concept of Samkvidro was developed in 2013, its formal realization took place at a later stage. Over the following years, the idea remained an important scholarly initiative, with the intention of creating a platform for rigorous research on Georgia’s cultural and intellectual heritage and its broader historical and social contexts.

In 2026, thirteen years after the original conception of the journal, this vision was realized with the formal launch of Samkvidro as an international electronic scientific journal of social sciences, curated by The Manuscript Research Center, Tbilisi, Georgia.

The journal continues the vision underlying its original conception by providing a scholarly platform for research on society, history, culture, intellectual traditions, and cultural heritage. Samkvidro seeks to promote rigorous and innovative scholarship, facilitate the international dissemination of Georgian research, and foster sustained academic dialogue between Georgian and international scholarly communities.
